Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Dunn, NC

Testosterone replacement treats a diagnosed deficiency, not a bad week. Diagnosis requires two separate morning blood tests showing low total testosterone alongside symptoms that fit. We test properly before prescribing, monitor while you are on it, and tell you plainly when the answer is that your testosterone is fine and something else is going on.

The part most clinics rush

Why Two Morning Tests, Not One?

This is the single biggest difference between a men's health clinic and a testosterone shop.

Testosterone follows a daily rhythm. It peaks in the early morning and drifts down through the day, so an afternoon test can read low in a man whose levels are entirely normal. It also dips with acute illness, poor sleep, heavy training and stress — all of which are temporary.

So a single low reading is a signal to test again, not a diagnosis. Two separate morning samples, ideally fasting, is the standard, and we hold to it.

We also look at what else could explain it: thyroid function, iron, vitamin D, sleep apnoea, depression, alcohol, and medications. Several of those produce exactly the symptoms men arrive with, and several are reversible without a controlled substance.

And we check LH and FSH, because the pattern tells you whether the problem sits in the testes or higher up in the pituitary. That changes the diagnosis and occasionally uncovers something that needs investigating rather than treating.

Sometimes the answer is no. If your levels are normal, we will say so and look elsewhere for the cause — which is more useful to you than a prescription that will not fix what is actually wrong.

What brings men in

Symptoms That Fit

  • Low EnergyTired in a way that sleep does not fix
  • Low LibidoAnd erectile difficulty, which men rarely lead with
  • MoodFlat, irritable, or losing interest in things you cared about
  • Body CompositionMuscle going, central weight arriving, despite training
  • FocusConcentration and drive that feel blunted
  • SleepPoor sleep — which is also a cause, not only a symptom

Two things you should hear first

What TRT Costs You, Not Just What It Gives

It suppresses fertility

External testosterone tells your body to stop making its own, and sperm production goes with it. For many men that is reversible on stopping; for some it is slow, and occasionally it does not fully recover.

If you might want children, say so at the first appointment. There are approaches that protect fertility, and choosing one is far easier at the start than two years in.

It is generally long term

Stop, and your own production does not simply switch back on straight away. Symptoms usually return and can feel worse for a period while your body recalibrates.

That is not a reason to avoid treatment. It is a reason to be sure you need it before you start, which is exactly why we are careful about the diagnosis.

The Monitoring That Has to Continue

Testosterone is not a prescription you collect and forget. Skipping this is how men get into trouble.

  • HaematocritTestosterone thickens the blood. Left unchecked this raises clot risk, and it is the most common reason we adjust or pause a dose.
  • PSA and prostateChecked at baseline and monitored. Treatment does not cause prostate cancer, but it should not be started blind.
  • Testosterone levelsTo confirm we are in range rather than overshooting. Higher is not better and brings its own problems.
  • EstradiolSome testosterone converts to estrogen. Where symptoms suggest it, we check and manage it.
  • Blood pressure and lipidsRoutine, ongoing, unglamorous, and the reason this is medical care rather than a subscription.

Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance. That carries real prescribing obligations, and any clinic treating it casually is a reason to walk out.

Questions We Get Asked Most

How do I know if I have low testosterone?

Symptoms alone are not enough — fatigue, low libido, low mood and losing muscle all have other common causes. Diagnosis needs two separate morning blood tests showing low total testosterone alongside symptoms that fit, plus checks on thyroid, iron, vitamin D and sleep to rule out the mimics.

Why does the test have to be in the morning?

Testosterone follows a daily rhythm, peaking early and drifting down through the day. An afternoon sample can read low in a man whose levels are perfectly normal, which is how people end up on treatment they never needed.

Does TRT affect fertility?

Yes. External testosterone suppresses your body's own production, and sperm production falls with it. It is often reversible on stopping, but recovery can be slow and occasionally incomplete. Tell us at the first appointment if you may want children — there are approaches that protect fertility, and choosing early is much easier.

Is testosterone therapy for life?

Usually long term. Your own production does not resume immediately on stopping, and symptoms typically return and can feel worse for a while. That is why the diagnosis has to be right before you start.

What monitoring do I need on TRT?

Haematocrit, because testosterone thickens the blood and raises clot risk if unchecked. PSA and prostate monitoring. Testosterone levels to confirm we are in range rather than overshooting. Estradiol where symptoms suggest it, plus blood pressure and lipids. Ongoing, not just at the start.

Will TRT help me lose weight?

It can improve body composition — more lean mass, less central fat — but it is not a weight loss drug. Low testosterone and stubborn central weight often travel together, so some men benefit from addressing both alongside a medical weight loss plan.

Can I get testosterone without bloodwork?

Not here. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance, and prescribing it without establishing a diagnosis is both poor medicine and a regulatory problem. Any clinic offering it without repeat morning testing is worth walking away from.

What if my levels come back normal?

We tell you, and we look elsewhere. Thyroid dysfunction, iron deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, sleep apnoea, depression and alcohol all produce the same symptoms and several are straightforwardly reversible. That is a better outcome than a prescription that does not address the cause.
