Laser Skin Resurfacing in Dunn, NC — CO2 & IPL

We offer two laser options, and they do different jobs. Lumecca IPL, or a photofacial, targets brown pigment and redness with almost no downtime. CO2 resurfacing removes damaged surface layers to address deeper lines, scarring and rough texture, with about a week of visible healing. Which you need depends on your concern and how much downtime you can take.

IPL or CO2 — Which One Do I Need?

The short version, and it is genuinely this simple: IPL is for colour. CO2 is for texture.

If what bothers you is what you see — brown spots, sun damage, redness, an uneven tone — that is a colour problem, and IPL is the treatment. It passes light through the skin without breaking the surface, so you go back to normal the same day.

If what bothers you is what you feel — rough, weathered texture, acne scarring, lines etched into the skin rather than sitting on it — that is a structural problem. CO2 resurfaces the skin itself, which is the only way to change it, and that costs you about a week.

Plenty of people eventually have both, at different times of year. Nobody should have both at once.

Option one

Lumecca IPL Photofacial

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. Rather than one laser wavelength, it delivers a broad spectrum that is absorbed by two things: the brown pigment in sun spots, and the blood in the small vessels that cause facial redness. Both are treated in the same pass.

Lumecca is the system we use. It is a stronger IPL than most, which matters — underpowered IPL is why people say photofacials did nothing for them.

What surprises people is the first few days: your brown spots get darker, sometimes noticeably, like coffee grounds on the skin. That is the treatment working. They lift and flake away over about a week, taking the pigment with them.

Most people need three to five sessions a month apart, then once or twice a year to hold it.

IPL is for

Colour and Tone

  • Sun DamageBrown spots across the face, chest and hands
  • RednessPersistent facial flushing and broken capillaries
  • RosaceaThe redness component, not the bumps
  • Uneven TonePatchiness that makeup has to work around
  • DullnessSkin that has lost its clarity
  • Chest & HandsThe two areas that age first and get treated last

Option two

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

The most significant single-treatment change we offer, and the one that asks the most of you.

CO2 is ablative, which means it removes tissue rather than heating it from underneath. We take off damaged surface layers in a fractional pattern — treating columns of skin and leaving healthy tissue between them, which is what makes recovery a week rather than a month.

Your skin then rebuilds. New collagen, new surface, and a genuine change in texture rather than an improvement in tone.

It is the right answer for acne scarring, deep lines around the eyes and mouth, and weathered skin that no serum has touched. Often a single treatment is enough, which is not something we can say about much else.

We will not do CO2 on someone who cannot take the downtime. Rushing this treatment is how people end up unhappy.

What the Week Actually Looks Like

Told properly, because the version where nobody warns you is how people panic on day three.

  • Days 1–2Red, hot and swollen, like a strong sunburn. Weeping is normal. You will be applying ointment constantly and you will not want to be seen.
  • Days 3–4Peeling begins and looks alarming. Do not pick it. Swelling starts to settle, usually worst on waking.
  • Days 5–7Peeling finishes. New skin underneath is bright pink and very tender. Most people are presentable with mineral makeup by day seven.
  • Weeks 2–6Pinkness fades gradually. Sunscreen is not optional during this window — new skin burns easily and pigments unpredictably.
  • Months 2–6Collagen continues to remodel. The texture change keeps improving long after you look normal.

Plan it around your life. Take a week where you do not need to be anywhere. Do not book it three weeks before a wedding — book it four months before one.

Why Timing Matters in North Carolina

Laser skin resurfacing treatment

Summer is the wrong season for this

Both treatments leave skin more sensitive to sun, and sun exposure afterwards is the main route to pigment change — which is the opposite of what you paid for. A Carolina July does not give new skin an easy time.

Autumn and winter are the sensible windows. If you want to look your best next summer, the treatment belongs in the winter before it, not the month before it.

We would rather turn you away in June and book you in October than treat you at the wrong time of year and manage the consequences together.

Questions We Get Asked Most

What is the difference between IPL and CO2 laser?

IPL treats colour — brown pigment, sun damage and redness — without breaking the skin surface, so there is almost no downtime. CO2 resurfaces the surface itself to treat deeper lines, acne scarring and rough texture, with five to seven days of visible healing. Colour versus texture is the whole distinction.

How long is CO2 laser recovery?

Five to seven days of visible healing. Red and swollen for two days, peeling on days three and four, bright pink new skin by day seven. Pinkness fades over the following weeks and the texture change continues improving for months.

How many IPL sessions will I need?

Most people need three to five, spaced about a month apart, then one or two a year to maintain it. A single session rarely clears significant sun damage.

Why do my brown spots look darker after IPL?

Because it is working. Treated pigment darkens over the first few days, sometimes markedly, then lifts and flakes away over roughly a week. It is the most common reason people message us after a first session.

Can I have laser resurfacing in the summer?

We would rather you did not. Both treatments leave skin more sun-sensitive, and sun exposure afterwards risks pigment change. Autumn and winter are the sensible windows in North Carolina. If you want to look your best next summer, plan it for the winter before.

Does CO2 laser hurt?

We numb thoroughly first. During treatment you will feel heat and a stinging sensation; afterwards it feels like a bad sunburn for a day or two. It is more uncomfortable than anything else on our aesthetics menu, which is part of why we are careful about who we recommend it to.

Should I have CO2 or Morpheus8?

CO2 removes the surface to change texture and scarring. Morpheus8 leaves the surface intact and delivers radiofrequency into the deeper layer to address laxity. If your concern is a softening jawline, Morpheus8. If it is the quality of the skin itself, CO2.

Can IPL be used on darker skin tones?

IPL relies on a contrast between pigment in the spot and pigment in the surrounding skin, so it is less suitable for deeper skin tones and carries more risk of pigment change. We assess skin type before treating and will recommend a different route where IPL is not the safe choice.

Both treatments start with a consultation, because which one you need — and whether this is the right season for it — is not something to guess at online. IPL is sold as a series; CO2 is usually a single treatment. Payment collects when you book, and your consent and intake go out automatically.
